National Timber Systems is Rescued from Administration and 160 jobs are saved

National Timber Systems, a once-thriving entity in the timber industry, faced a significant downturn and ultimately collapsed last November. In a promising turn of events, the Newport-based Premier Forest Products has successfully acquired National Timber Systems (NTS) from administration. This strategic acquisition not only revitalizes the company but also safeguards 160 jobs, providing hope and stability for the employees and the local community.

The acquisition, unveiled just ahead of the Christmas season, came on the heels of the unfortunate downfall of National Timber Systems’ parent company, National Timber Group, which faced financial difficulties and collapsed in November.

National Timber Systems plays a crucial role in the construction industry, providing both national and regional housebuilders, along with various sectors such as modular construction, with an extensive array of engineered timber products and services designed to meet diverse building needs.

Terry Edgell, the co-founder and chief executive of Premier Forest Products, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, “We see National Timber Systems as an excellent complement to Premier Forest. This addition significantly enhances our portfolio of engineered timber solutions, enabling us to better serve customers throughout the UK.”

Under the recent acquisition deal, Premier Forest has successfully acquired the operations of NTS located in key areas including Bristol, Newcastle, and Catterick in North Yorkshire. This strategic move follows their previous purchase of the National Timber Group’s Arnold Laver sites situated in Manchester and Reading, which was facilitated through the administrators.

Premier Forest, which was established in 1993, has demonstrated significant growth over the years. In its most recent financial report for the fiscal year ending in April 2024, the company recorded an impressive turnover of £97 million, along with a pre-tax profit of £2.7 million. This acquisition marks a crucial expansion for Premier Forest, enhancing its operational footprint and service capabilities in the timber industry across multiple regions.
