The uncertain economic situation and the challenges faced by the forest industry continue to affect the demand for Ponsse’s forest machines. The weakened market situation is reflected in a reduction in the company’s order backlog and flow.

As a savings and adjustment measure, Ponsse is planning possible adjustments to the production in Vieremä for 2026 and related possible layoffs of production workers and possible layoffs of salaried employees and senior salaried employees.

“The weakening demand in the forest industry and the decrease in timber harvesting volumes had a negative impact on the demand for forest machines, which was particularly evident in the Finnish market. We closely monitor the changes taking place in our operating environment, but at the same time we ensure that we are able to offer normal services to our customers in all circumstances”, says CEO Juho Nummela.

Estimation of the impact and timing of the planned measures

According to Ponsse’s estimate, if implemented, the plans may lead to the temporary part-time or full-time lay-off of the employees that the change negotiations pertain to for a maximum of 90 days during 2026. A total of 1,086 people from Ponsse’s personnel in Finland fall under the scope of the negotiations. The negotiations do not concern terminations.
