Simultaneously, the charging curve of the van has undergone enhancements. While the peak charging power remains at 125 kW, improvements to the battery management system have resulted in a reduction of charging time from 10% to 80%, now requiring approximately 30 minutes—ten minutes less than the previous duration. Under optimal conditions, the electric T7 can attain a range of 62 miles in just 10 minutes of charging. It is anticipated that earlier models equipped with the smaller battery will also experience improved charging speeds through over-the-air updates, as is consistent with the Ford E-Transit Custom, which serves as the foundation for the Transporter.
For the 2026 model year, Volkswagen is set to enhance its lineup by introducing a new all-wheel-drive powertrain, complementing the existing rear-wheel-drive configuration that has been available since the vehicle’s launch. This updated system, branded under the well-known 4Motion name, integrates an additional motor at the front axle. This innovation works seamlessly in conjunction with the electronic stability control system, which meticulously manages torque distribution and braking force across both the front and rear axles. The result is superior traction and handling capabilities, particularly on challenging surfaces such as wet roads, unpaved trails, and rough environments like construction sites.
Volkswagen is offering the optional 4Motion all-wheel-drive setup in three different power outputs: 134bhp, 215bhp, and a more powerful 282bhp variant. This range allows customers to choose the performance level that best suits their driving needs and preferences. The updated versions of the E-Transporter and E-Caravelle models are anticipated to hit the market in the coming months, with further details on pricing expected to be released soon.
