Summary

The FLS team in East Scotland manage approximately 90,000Ha of woodland from the coastal pine woods of Moray and Fife, the large productive forests across Aberdeenshire and the busy recreational woods of Aberdeen and the iconic forests of Bennachie and Perthshire.
FLS are an executive agency of the Scottish Government and are the largest producer of timber in Scotland. Job description
We are looking for Work Site Supervisors to join both our Harvesting and Forest Management / Stewardship teams.
Our harvesting team is responsible for producing over half a million cubic meters of timber a year across East Scotland we do this working in 6 beats. Each beat is led by a Forester and Work Site Supervisor and works with both a team of our own Forest Machine Operator and contractors.
Our FM / Stewardship teams are responsible for the replanting of areas of forest we have felled. They are also charged with managing and maintaining all our woods from looking after public footpaths to managing our biodiverse native woodland and archaeology. These teams are also split in to 6 beats again each led by a Forester, Work Site Supervisor with a number of field staff to carry out practical work in the forests.
The role of a Work Site Supervisor is very much field oriented – supervising our own teams of staff and contractors in the field. There is also an element of “office” work required in terms of record keeping and planning. Your key focus will be on ensuring our work meets stringent Health, Safety and Environmental standards but also on meeting requirements from customers eg maintaining the timber supply chain.
Responsibilities
Work with the Forester to plan and execute safe and sustainable forest operations across your work area;
Work to look after ongoing forest operations ensuring regular communication with teams, contractors and merchants;
Provide a key point of contact for your Forester, teams and contractors to communicate effectively with each other;
Ensure good records are kept of site visits, audits and stock control.
Person Specification
Technical Skills
Essential
Full Clean UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
Basic qualification in Forestry or Land Management eg HND / HNC level;
Trailer towing certificate or ability to attain within 6 months.
Experience
Essential
Previous experience of forest or land management based operations;
Previous experience of supervising people;
Strong communication skills;
Experience of using IT software including Microsoft office, mapping software, handheld devices.
Desirable
Demonstrable experience and understanding of land based health and safety practices;
Previous experience of operations involving heavy plant machinery tractors or chainsaws;
Previous experience at supervising contractors.
Licences
You need to have a full current driving licence that enables you to drive in the UK. However, we are willing to consider any proposals that would allow you to do the job by other means.
