The September issue of Forest Machine Magazine will be available from Friday the 25th of August. This 56-page bi-monthly publication is free and available to collect at pick-up points throughout the UK or delivered direct to your door for just £15 p&p.

Winning this month’s front cover photo, is Jack Osborne with his 1910 John Deere forwarder, we find out how this young operator from Wales got started in forestry and what he enjoys most about his work.

We visit Glasfryn Sawmill in Wales where they live and breathe timber. The sawmill, which is nestled in the Llyn Peninsula grows, harvests, processes, tanalised and sells all its own fencing and sawn timber. Arwel Roberts, who established the sawmill in 1984 and still manages it to this day, showed us around the forest and mill and explained the fascinating history from when it was created to the present day.

We take a look at the world’s first battery operated portable log splitter from Ryobi which has an impressive 12 tonnes of splitting force, and the interesting trailer mounted, fire-extinguishing unit concept from Kelsa, for fighting forest fires. The multi-purpose trailer can easily be adapted back to a forwarder trailer when there is no fire risk.

The Swedish Forestry Expo uncovered some new equipment and technology, and with the Confor Woodland Show just a few weeks away, we have a preview of what visitors can expect to see at the Bath and West showground venue this year. Other great features in this issue include GB Lubricants who offer a step by step guide on the handling, storage and disposal of their lubricants, a visit to harvesting contractor Kieran Anders, who has a felling squad and extracts timber using his skidder and a new Valmet/Farma forwarder in the Lake District, a visit to Treeline open days where a good selection of firewood, biomass, extraction and ground preparation equipment were demonstrated, how the market for firewood continues to grow, Sennebogen’s new 718E tree care handler, HIAB’s new  HiSkill simulator for assisting with knuckle boom loader training, readers gallery and of course our young loggers pages.
