Our editor, Rab Easton, is a second generation forestry professional with almost 50 years’ hands on experience. He has worked on harvesting contracts throughout the UK and Ireland, Germany, and the USA. He started out as a chainsaw operator with the Forestry Commission where he gained his foresters qualifications but opted to continue his career in timber harvesting rather than management. He also qualified as a Forest Machine Operator Instructor training the next generation of operators at the Barony College in Parkgate near Dumfries.
Having been a part of the forest industry and known by the people and contractors working in it has been a huge asset to Forest Machine Magazine, it has opened doors that are closed to others.
In the nine years Forest Machine Magazine has been established we have built up a network of highly experienced operators that we can call upon to give good honest feedback when trialling equipment and accessories in real conditions.
Rab’s wife Wendy was initially a tree surgeon who worked at Canterbury Cathedral before moving over to horticulture and specialising in plant propagation. She has been an instrumental part of Forest Machine Magazine taking care of clients, photography, graphic designing, and the building and maintaining the website.
We made the decision this year for the website and our social media pages to become our sole outlet for information about current events, equipment and features as this allows us to publish instantly as opposed to working to deadlines
Written by loggers for loggers, forestry is not just a job but a way of life
