As demand has grown in North and South America for logging on steeper slopes with heavy equipment the Austrian company developed the Ecoforst 40.3 remote-assist traction winch to meet these demands.
It is stronger and faster than previous models and has a redesigned winch drive with 250kN-56,000lbf of constant pulling force making it the most powerful traction assist winch on the market.
The 441hp engine provides 7.45 of line speed which offers a positive impact on productivity with more versatility. Larger final drives, bigger pullies, larger butterfly fairlead and more drum capacity have surpassed the capabilities of this winch over the 30.2 model.
Another feature of the Ecoforst 40.3 model is the sliding protection on the side of the blade which allows use in narrow spaces where it can’t be set up in a straight line and allows it to pull at extreme angles

Markus and Johann Krenn, the founders of Ecoforst, are from Tragöß, near the center of Austria and prior to starting the company they were in the forestry specialising in steep slope logging using a cable crane.
After a meeting Andreas Jahrer and Christian Seunig in 2008 when they worked for Konrad Forsttechnik as they used Konrad’s steep slope equipment led to discussions and finally they left Konrad and begun working for Markus and Johann’s logging company. Both of them were running harvesters and the Krenn’s were running a forwarder. The idea to build the T-WINCH was born at coffee breaks during our logging operations with the harvester and forwarder. The T-WINCH was fully self-funded through the logging company.
The company was built because they quickly reached their limits and had very long distances where the attached winch rope was too short so they decided to build an external winch. That was in 2011, so together with their harvester operators and two great people Jahrer Andreas and Seunig Christian the T-Winch was born.
In September 2014 it became an official company called Ecoforst GmbH in Tragöß. In February 2015, they delivered the first production machine to Switzerland. In the first year they were able to build and sell 12 units. Currently, they build 2 units per month.
It was first introduced in North America in 2016 and has since sold 55 units, 20 of these were sold last year.
They are currently co-operating with Konrad Forsttrechnik on an autonomous skidder project, T-SKIDDER, which was started in 2023 and several protypes have been trialled. One is currently working in Chile and they expect production units to be available from the end of this year.
