Harvester Operator, Lead Climbers & Hand cutters Required
Due to unforeseen circumstances Jonathan Cook Forestry now have the following positions available.
Harvester operator
Operating a John Deere 1270 G 8 wheeler with a H270 harvester head.
We cover mainly estate work with a small percentage of Forestry Commision work. Your work must be to an ultra high standard to meet the companies high expectation and our clients remit.
You must have experience in both softwood and hardwood and understand product breakout and how to maximise recovery.
We aren’t hell bent on smashing tonnes over quality but the production has to be right for the job.
Our work is in Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, the Cotswolds, The M40 Corridor and sometimes Hereford and the Welsh Border. 60 plus hours a week if you want it
Pay is subject to experience. Night out money paid for caravans.
A competitive package for the right person. Self employed or employed for the right candidate.

Lead Climber
We are looking for a lead climber to join our team.
The role we are offering is FULL TIME EMPLOYED but would also consider someone self employed.
40 hours a week plus overtime if you want it. We pay for every hour you work and not just “day rate”
Our work is varied with a vast number of commercial contracts but we still carry out domestic work.
Being open minded is important as you may be required to assist felling in the woods with the forestry team. It’s important your a team player and realise that everyone plays their equal part.
You will help tidy up and muck in on the ground so no pre Madonna’s
Experience is essential as we do everything from trimming gladdis’s bush to crane work.

That’s a remarkable amount of work hours for a single machine, the Norcar 600 owned by Erkki Rinne is taken well care of, it even has the original Diesel engine.

Kieran Anders is a forestry contractor working in the lake district. His work involves hand cutting and extracting timber using a skidder and tractor-trailer forwarder.

It is not possible to eliminate chain shot, but there are simple steps that can be taken to reduce the risk.

Arwel takes great pride in the fact that the mill has no waste whatsoever, “the peelings are used for children’s playgrounds, gardens and for farm animals in barns in the winter and the sawdust has multiple uses in gardens and farms as well.

Timber hauliers need to encourage young blood in, and also look after the hauliers we have, we need make the sector a safe and positive place to work.

Handcutters
We have a very busy work programme with the forestry works and need additional help handcutting.
The work is varied between hardwood and softwood. We have a very high standard as this is what keeps us in work!
We have been through plenty of dreamers that think they can do it but there’s no hiding from it, this is production cutting and it’s hard work. Stumps need to be low, rounding out and trimming out needs to be flush and neat.
Where we can we always use mechanical aid so there is a lot of working to and with a harvester and forwarder.
7 days a week if you want it
Pay again subject to experience and quality.

With all three of these jobs we are looking for people with a passion for the industry, something that hardly seems to exist anymore.
We will pay very good money but not silly un sustainable wages.
We feel we lead from the front in many ways and have a very successful team already in place.
Our kit is a mix of shiny to very dull but we always try to make life as easy as possible.
There’s plenty of banter and our view is dirty hands clean money, workers not shirkers.
