Tree work on steep slopes with SENNEBOGEN 728 E

SENNEBOGEN 728 E-Along the Unterer Ardeyweg in Altena, Germany, numerous ash trees, some of which were over 100 years old, were in danger of breaking off uncontrollably. The trees were severely damaged by progressive ash dieback and fungal infestation – posing a serious risk to the L530 state road below and several residential buildings. In order to restore traffic safety as quickly as possible, the city of Altena commissioned a specialized tree felling company.

Tree care handler with 21 m reach

The Michael Meyer Holzeinschlag company owns a 718 E tree care handler from SENNEBOGEN, but called on Christian Hauschulte-Oberdick for support with the slightly larger 728 E for this special job. With a reach of 21 meters, the SENNEBOGEN tree care handler, which was specially developed for demanding tree work, was ideal for this challenging job on the difficult slope.

On a 40-metre-high steep slope with a steep gradient

The unique topography placed high demands on both man and machine: the diseased ash trees stood on a steep slope with a gradient of up to 40 meters. The SENNEBOGEN 728 E impressed with its robust construction, a powerful telescopic boom with a reach of up to 21 meters, and a continuously adjustable driver’s cab. This combination allows the machine operator to work precisely even on rough terrain – with an optimal view of the tree crown and cutting area. “With the 728 E, we can handle a wide range of applications. We can even work effortlessly on jobs like this one here in Altena,” says Michael Porsch, operator of the 728 E.

Attached grapple saw

The machine operated while standing at the foot of the slope and, thanks to the attached grapple saw, was able to securely grip each section of tree, cut it, and bring it safely to the ground—without endangering people, buildings, or the busy road. The operation was supported by a temporary complete closure of Unterer Ardeyweg and a sectional closure of the L530.

SENNEBOGEN technology for delicate operations

“The 728E is made for precisely these situations: steep terrain, unstable trees, confined spaces. Instead of climbing or using risky lifting technology, we work entirely from the ground – efficiently, safely, and with minimal personnel,” explains Patrick Spiller, sales manager at SENNEBOGEN sales and service partner BRR Baumaschinen Rhein-Ruhr, who has been working with Hauschulte for many years.

In addition to its high level of work safety, the tree care handler also scored points with its well-thought-out maintenance concept, strong off-road capabilities, and energy-saving drive. The work was completed on schedule and the site was secured for the long term – to the satisfaction of the city administration, residents, and the companies involved.
