The uncertain market environment and challenges facing the forest industry continue to affect demand for forest machines. Ponsse’s order book is not sufficient relative to production capacity. The company’s profitability has also weakened.

As an adjustment and cost-saving measure, Ponsse is planning potential production adjustments in Vieremä for 2027. Consequently, the company is considering potential temporary layoffs affecting production personnel and other blue-collar employees as well as salaried and senior salaried employees during 2027.

“The market environment remains challenging, and demand is not at a sufficient level relative to our production capacity. Under these circumstances, we must take the necessary measures and prepare for potential temporary layoffs in 2027. We will continue our customer work as normal, take care of our customers and ensure the continuity of our services even in the event of potential temporary layoffs,” says President and CEO Juho Nummela.

Estimation of the impact and timing of the planned measures

According to Ponsse’s estimate, if implemented, the planned measures may lead to temporary part-time or full-time layoffs for up to 90 days in 2027 for the employees covered by the negotiations. The negotiations cover 1,109 employees across Ponsse’s operations in Finland. The negotiations do not concern any redundancies.

Ponsse Plc specialises in the sales, manufacture, servicing, and technology of cut-to-length method forest machines and is driven by a genuine interest in its customers and their business. Ponsse develops and manufactures sustainable and innovative harvesting solutions based on customers’ needs.

Forest machine entrepreneur Einari Vidgrén founded the company in 1970, and it has led timber harvesting solutions based on the cut-to-length method ever since. Ponsse is headquartered in Vieremä, Finland. The company’s shares are quoted on the Nasdaq Nordic List.
