Sveaskog and VSV Unite recently commissioned the third timber truck in the TREE project, which so far is the project’s eighth vehicle in total. This autumn, four more vehicles will be launched.

Sveaskog and VSV Unite recently commissioned the third timber truck in the Skogforsk-led project TREE. It will roll on demo site 5 in Närke and Värmland.

With the new timber truck, Sveaskog and VSV will overcome the obstacles that exist by carrying out extensive tests and follow-up in operation.

“We want to drive the development towards a significantly reduced fossil dependency for transport from the forest to our customers. It will be very exciting to see how the electric timber truck can form a piece of the puzzle in our transport work in the future. Together with our partners VSV Unite and Åkeri AB Tage Palmqvist, we create the opportunity to follow the car for a longer period and evaluate in which transport assignments it is most useful,” says Anna Ahlin, technology specialist at Sveaskog.

The car will be part of the regular car fleet and will be driven in the borderland between Värmland and Närke, where Sveaskog has a lot of its own forest and several customers in the immediate area. The goal is to identify its strengths and challenges linked to working methods, route planning and business models.

“The challenge for us is to achieve a functioning logistics where we can deliver efficient transports to the same extent as for conventional vehicles. We want to take an active role in the transition work and be part of the development in the industry. In the TREE project, we will contribute with hauliers who test electric timber trucks and also contribute with knowledgeable staff in various working groups within TREE,” says Sara Ståhl, Sustainability and Quality Manager at VSV Unite.

Åkeri AB Tage Palmqvist is a local player that has been transporting Sveaskog’s timber for several generations and will now be responsible for the daily operation of the electric roundwood truck.

“It is exciting to have the opportunity to be part of the fossil-free transport development. At this early stage, challenges will certainly arise, but together with all the talented people around us, we believe that it will work in a good way,” says Erik Palmqvist, CEO of Åkeri AB Tage Palmqvist.
