E-Transit and Transit Models receive significant digital upgrades for 2024

The standard connectivity features of both Ford Transit diesel models and all-electric E-Transit models, as well as Ford Power Up over-the-air updates, will be improved with the updates. On the internal combustion engine side, the front-wheel drive model will be available with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The new software simplifies body modifications and automates repetitive tasks in goods deliveries. This matters because delivery drivers can have up to 150 deliveries per day. Chassis improvements and an eight-speed automatic transmission increase load capacity and improve vehicle performance, handling and efficiency.Ford Pro is expanding the digital capabilities of the Transit and E-Transit models so that customers in a variety of professions can benefit from the benefits of connected commercial vehicles to increase their productivity.

New features for 2024 in Europe include:

SYNC 4 infotainment system with 12-inch center-mounted touchscreen display and 8-inch digital instrument cluster. The cab is intuitive and easy to use for the driver. In addition, Connected Navigation and its real-time traffic information help drivers plan their route and stay on schedule.Ford’s latest 5G modem provides superfast connectivity to Transit’s smart technologies. Ford Power-Up over-the-air updates, meanwhile, increase vehicle productivity without having to go to service.

The new Delivery Assist technology available for long-body E-Transit and Transit vans automates repetitive safety measures for deliveries, which can often be as high as 150 per day. The technology saves up to 20 seconds per delivery. Parking the car stops the engine, activates the hazard lights and alarm, and locks all doors that the driver does not use to exit the cab or take packages out of the car. Pressing the brake pedal restarts the engine and turns off the hazard lights.Ford Pro’s Upfit Integration system allows drivers to operate retrofitted devices via the standard touchscreen in the cab via digital buttons, and also link Ford Pro software packages for remote monitoring – for example, to monitor temperature in refrigerated vehicles transporting medicines or food, where an uninterrupted cold chain is essential.

Designed for greater performance, efficiency and capability

Comprehensive driver assistance systems to improve both driver and load safety will become standard in Transit in 2024. These include Collision Avoidance Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keeping Assist, as well as Active Cruise Control. The Driver Assistance Pack includes, among other things, a blind spot warning system with intersecting traffic warning and Active Cruise Control with lane centering and Stop & Go functions.

In the 2024 model, front-wheel drive Transit models will be available with a new eight-speed automatic transmission that improves performance, efficiency and transport capability. The new powertrain maximises load capacity up to a gross weight of 4,250 kilograms, an increase of 700 kilograms.

The new wheel hub and brake systems reduce weight by up to 27 kg, depending on the vehicle model. In addition, the design allows for easier brake changes, which reduces the replacement time of four brake discs by two hours. The 2024 models will come standard with new 16-inch tires.

The new heavy-duty gross axle weight package is now also available for front-wheel drive models, increasing the maximum weight of the front axle from 1,850 kg to 2,000 kg. This creates more possibilities for body modifications and saves drivers time and effort by reducing load-sharing requirements. Ford Pro expects this to be beneficial, for example, in horse transport or at low loading height, where the load needs to be loaded easily and the load capacity needs to be high.

The latest Transit and E-Transit models will be available for customers to order in September 2023 and their production will start next year. Deliveries are expected to start in summer 2024.
