Clark and Oregon put new harvester bar to the test

Roadshow gives contractors the chance to trial the Oregon SpeedMax XL Anti-Vibe bar in working forestry conditions

Oregon joined Clark Engineering in May for a forestry roadshow focused on the new Oregon SpeedMax™ XL Anti-Vibe harvester bar.

The roadshow took the bar out to three working forestry sites, giving contractors the chance to trial it in real harvesting conditions alongside Oregon 19HX chain. Rather than keeping the product to a workshop or stand-based demonstration, the aim was to see the bar working in the kind of conditions operators are dealing with day to day.

Across the visits, members of the Clark and Oregon teams were on site to answer questions, discuss bar and chain set-up, and gather feedback directly from operators using the equipment.

The first visit was with Graham Dover from TPH Ltd at Watson’s Walls, part of the company’s FC LTC. The site was mainly standing timber, with a small amount of windblow, average tree size of around 0.4m³, good ground conditions and a level working area.

The second site visit was with Scott MacNeil of DJ & SG MacNeil Forestry Services. The machine on site was a Logset 8H fitted with a TH75 harvesting head, working on a windblow clearance site where around 80% of the timber had been down for more than three years.

The final visit was with Walton Logging Ltd on a clearfell site in the Scottish Borders, using a John Deere 1270H with a 425 head.

The three sites gave Clark and Oregon a useful spread of conditions, covering standing timber, windblow and clearfell work. Feedback from operators centred on the thicker bar construction and increased rigidity, with the SpeedMax XL Anti-Vibe bar helping support faster, more efficient cutting and an improved quality of cut.

The SpeedMax XL Anti-Vibe bar has been developed for professional harvesting and processor work. Key design features include reduced bar movement, a thicker alloy steel body, improved rail durability, reduced chain throw and Oregon’s built-in LubriTec™ oiling system, which is designed to keep high-friction areas lubricated during use.

When paired with Oregon 19HX chain, the set-up is designed to help reduce bar wear, limit avoidable downtime and support productivity across long working days.

Blair from Clark Engineering said: “We wanted to take the SpeedMax XL Anti-Vibe bar out to working sites and see it in proper conditions, not just talk about it from the workshop. The three sites gave us a good mix of timber and working conditions, and the feedback from operators was really useful. The points that came up again and again were the rigidity of the bar, the quality of cut and how the set-up performed when paired with 19HX chain.”

For Clark Engineering, the roadshow was also a chance to spend time with contractors on site and discuss the wider Oregon forestry range, including harvester bars, chain and related consumables.
