New Forest’s SeedGun Reforestation System

SeedGun

SeedGun is a cost-effective reforestation method that gives seeds the best conditions to sprout and grow into healthy trees. Very precise sowing creates significant savings in seed costs and notable improvements in sowing results.

SeedGun can be installed on almost any excavator or tillage machine. SeedGun doesn’t interfere with your machine’s operation. Combining sowing with other site-preparation operations enables remarkable cost savings.

Combining sowing with other work is more flexible than using continuous sowing devices, because the driver has full control over the timing of the sowing event. The operation can also be automated as a continuous process.

The SeedGun sowing method has been developed for almost 30 years. It has already been used to reforest thousands of hectares.

Machine sowing with SeedGun usually achieves better germination results than manual sowing when the seeds are sown into fresh, moist soil with SeedGun.

With the SeedGun, sowing is not a separate, expensive, time-consuming step. It happens at the same time as soil preparation. This way, the seeds are immediately placed in fresh, moist soil. This improves the success of sowing.

With SeedGun, it is always easy to use the desired seed type or, if necessary, a seed mixture for each site: pine, birch and spruce. For each sowing location, the machine driver can also choose the desired tree seed by selecting the sowing button.

Adding seed to the seed tanks and changing seed types can be done comfortably from the machine cab.

The number of seeds in one sowing event can be adjusted precisely. The machine directs seeds to the exact desired location. Typical seed consumption for pine is only 150–200 g/hectare, and for birch 40–80 g/hectare.

If necessary, sowing can also be automated continuously.

SeedGun can be installed on almost any tillage machine or excavator. It does not interfere with other use of the machine. If necessary, the device can be quickly removed due to the quick connectors.

The SeedGun is installed on the cab of a soil tillage machine within reach of the driver:

1) It is easy for the driver to select the right sowing time and precise sowing location by pressing the button and to monitor the success of each sowing operation.

2) The seed tanks are visible to the driver and are easy to fill.

3) The seed tank shoots out just the right amount of seed along the seed tubes directly to the correct sowing location.

By selecting a button, the driver can choose which seed tank to use for each sowing event. This makes it possible to sow even a mixture of pine, birch, or spruce, depending on the situation and the terrain.

On the SeedGun screen, the driver can easily see the amount of seed sown on the site. This provides accurate information for invoicing the sowing work.

Compatible with ASTA forestry GPS documentation system

SeedGun is also compatible with Risutec’s ASTA forestry GPS documentation system. The ASTA documentation system indicates the cultivation location, the area and the sowing frequency. ASTA can also show SeedGun sowing locations and sowing data.

You can store the data of used wood seeds and mixtures in ASTA.

When using ASTA in the tillage machine, you can calculate the number of seedling spots. This helps you order the right amount of seedlings. It always depends on the soil and the habitat when it is best to plant and to sow.
